The Bottom Line
One of the things that made the Rock Fest Challenge so much fun was that the course layout was designed with spectators in mind, so there was seating available around the entire perimeter of the course. With hundreds of people watching, participants were greeted with warm applause when they did well, and congratulatory applause for a good show when they either broke or got stuck. There was also a daily "open rockcrawl" for jamboree participants, designed to help them hone their skills in a laid-back environment.
The Rock Fest Challenge is such a runaway hit that Special Events added it to the 2001 Fall Jamboree in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the 2001 Carolina Jamboree in Anderson, South Carolina. Of course, we were there to chronicle these east-of-the-Mississippi competitions, so watch future issues for a full report.
