For those of you who enjoyed our coverage of Days One and Two of Trail Tour 2008, here are the rest of the pictures and their captions. This event consisted of five full days of 'wheeling in the snow of Northern Idaho. We had so much fun and took so many pictures that we had to split things up. For a full explanation of what Trail Tour is all about and to check out the action from Day One and Two, please see last month's issue of 4WD&SU. And now, here is the rest of the story...enjoy.
Day Three - Eagle Creek & The Sprag Pole
At the beginning of Day Three we hung out with Smokey for a minute. Remember, only you can prevent forest fires! | Enjoying the road trip to Day Three's destination in (literally) Eagle Creek. It was nice not having to deal with tow rigs. Despite being the end of April, winter still had a good hold on Northern Idaho. | Mel and Lisa Wade, owners of Off Road Evolution found their pucker factor when their '07 JK Unlimited slid sideways as Wade attempted to descend into the creek. Their JK was probably the biggest and heaviest rig on the run. Outfitted with 40-inch Toyos hung from ProRock 60s, suspended by Full Traction Long Arms and an Off Road Evolution's front Coilover kit and rear Evolever kit, the big Jeep was rescued by Scott Becker and Peter Smith, the boys from Rubicon Express with their Ramsey Patriot winch. |
We spent a good portion of Day Three in Eagle Creek. Feeling a little uneasy about driving in the creek, we were assured by the locals that in was OK because Eagle Creek was dead (nothing living in it) due to mining runoff up stream. | Odd breakage for the week goes to Scott Adams when the aluminum alternator bracket on his 383 Chevy cracked in half. Brad Kilby quickly fired up his Premier Power Welder and Carl Yarbrough (of Old Town Customs in Nacogdoches, Texas) volunteered his aluminum welding skills to make the repair. | Former Top Truck Challenge Winner Tony Fox was our tail gunner all week. We didn't get to see much of his '92 YJ which holds true to its AMC roots with a 401 under its louvered hood. That big Rambler power goes on thru a Turbo 400 and an Atlas 4.3 to a Dynatrac 60 and Dana 44, both with Detroits, 4.56s and Warn 'shafts. Tony has been a player at all four Trail Tours. |
 | After another great day 'wheeling, our local boys took us to yet another cool hideaway for dinner. The Sprag Pole not only had awesome grub but also an incredible museum, featuring about 150 years of local lore. It was a great way to kill time while we waited for our food - which was a good wait since we don't think the place had seen a crowd the size of ours in a while! | It just wasn't Scott Adams' day. First it was his alternator bracket, then he forgot to turn off his electric fan during a particularly deep water crossing... bet he doesn't forget to do that again! |
