4x4 Adventures - Big Bear Bronco Bash V
Trail leader Steve Bennett of Ontario, California, makes his way up John Bull Trail in his well-equipped '77 Bronco Sport. Steve's "ZNOTA JP" license plate helps ward off the occasionally necessary "It's a Bronco" statements directed at unknowing sorts.
Rich Correia of Wild Horses 4x4 traveled from Stockton, California, to attend the Big Bear Bronco Bash. His well-appointed '71 features a fuel-injected 351W V-8, NP435 trans, a Dana 20 'case, Wild Horses suspension, 4.56 gears, and 35-inch Goodyear MT/Rs.
This Burnt Yellow (not orange) '66 Bronco belongs to Steve Wedeking of San Diego. The rig features a fuel-injected 302 V-8, a C4 trans, and 35-inch Pro Comp Mud Terrains on 15x10 Pro Comp wheels.
Skip Metcalf of Thousand Oaks, California, effortlessly navigated his '74 Bronco through the trail. A 302 V-8, C4 trans, and 3.50 gears spin the 33-inch BFG M-Ts.
The Wild Horses 4x4 suspension helped Rich Correia's '71 move along the trail with ease. Rich's Bronco is also equipped with front and rear Wild Horses Rock Blocker bumpers.
Marcus Rostad made easy work of the Big Bear trails in his recently completed '67 Bronco. An NV4500 and Atlas transfer case offer optimum gearing, and the plush limo ride is courtesy of the King coilover shocks. A set of 35-inch BFG A-Ts also help smooth the rough stuff.
It doesn't take huge tires to tackle the Big Bear trails, but lockers were working overtime on the loose dirt and rock hillclimbs.
The trails traverse the San Bernardino mountain range and offer a variety of terrains. Pine forest can open up to a rocky sand wash with the turn of a corner.
The Big Bear trail system offers ample wheeling opportunities and spectacular views.
Steve Baker and son of Santee, California, are regulars on the Big Bear trail system. Their '67 Bronco rolls on 36-inch Interco Irok tires and is powered by a 302 V-8.
