With the installation of the 4-inch TeraFlex LCG Pro suspension system on this '01 Jeep TJ we were able to fit a set of 35x12.50R15 Cooper Discoverer STT tires mounted to Pro Comp Rock Crawler Series 97 steel wheels.
TeraFlex LCG suspension systems are designed to maintain a low center of gravity while still offering maximum ground clearance. Maintaining a low center of gravity means that the vehicle can utilize a taller tire without being lifted to the moon. This translates to improved trail-crawling ability without compromising safety in off-camber side hills and steep hillclimbs where a highly lifted TJ might want to roll over. The kit also features the ability to adjust the antisquat characteristics, which is very cool for fine-tuning suspension to function best under many variables.
The LCG system is available in three configurations to fit 35-inch-and-taller tires. The LCG Pro, Enduro, and Max kits are designed as modular systems so that vehicle owners can build at their own pace. The base kit includes lower long-arm suspension modular FlexArms that secure to the factory control arm axle brackets and new frame brackets that bolt in factory skidplate locations. The modular FlexArms are constructed from 1.75-inch DOM tubing and use large, one-piece forged rod ends with 4 inches of threaded shank, adding to the adjustability of this system. Spherical urethane rod ends are used to secure the modular FlexArms. The next stage adds a rear triangulated four-link with long upper control arms, and the final stage finishes things off with a front triangulated four-link with both front and rear track bars eliminated. Just because you go all the way doesn't mean you have to run 37-inch tires since you have a choice of installing 4- or 5-inch-lift coil springs. The LCG Max system permits 6-inch coils for even taller tire options. The kit is designed for use on all TJ Wranglers, including Rubicon and Unlimited with Dana 30, 35, 44, and Rubicon 44 axles. Custom kits can be assembled to accommodate high-pinion, high-performance axles.
Since the LCG system requires a good bit of cutting and welding for installation, TeraFlex recommends having the kit installed by a professional shop. We looked to ORW in San Diego, California, which is also a TeraFlex dealer. The qualified shop team has a lot of experience with the Tera systems, and they completed a very thorough installation of a 4-inch LCG Pro kit on an '01 Jeep TJ. To meet the new elevated stance of the Tera system, we acquired a set of 35x12.50R15 Cooper Discoverer STT tires and had ORW mount them on a set of 15x8 Pro Comp Series 97 Rock Crawler steel wheels with 3-3/4-inch backspacing.
