Driveline
The Mojave is fit with a five-speed automatic transmission, and the NV245 Quadra-Trac II transfer case offers active, full-time four-wheel drive. The axles are fit with electronic limited-slip differentials (ELSD), which Jeep calls Vari-Lok progressive axles. Dave thinks these differential-locking systems will impress even the most passionate Jeep enthusiasts.
Aev Refinements
Complementing this luxury trail rig and offering protection are AEV's 1/8-inch steel rocker guards, which have 1/4-inch reinforcement plates inside. They replace the factory plastic body-side moldings and actually give more ground clearance. A 1/4-inch-plate steel winch mount and crossmember were placed inside the factory bumper and fit with a Warn XP9500 winch. The D-rings are built into the crossmember. Fabrication required cutting out the factory front crossmember and replacing it with the winch mount, which also doubles as a crossmember. Complete bumper systems should be available sometime this year. All the accessories, including the wheels, interior, and exterior trim, have been painted with Standox Viper Steel Gray paint.
Touring Vehicle
The Mojave wasn't designed or built to run the toughest trails a four-wheeler can find, although this is not to say we have doubts that the vehicle wouldn't withstand the rigors of extreme 'wheeling and challenges - we feel it could. The vehicle was, however, engineered for overland adventure exploration. It is the perfect highway vehicle for traveling to adventure destinations, then embarking on off-highway expeditions. The highway ride of the Mojave is quiet and comfortable, with excellent handling characteristics. The interior is fit with the finest seating, climate control, navigation and sound systems Jeep has produced yet, making long-haul travel very pleasurable. The Mojave is available through American Expedition Vehicles.
