The T1 is a (sort of) TJ Wrangler in Egyptian military trim with a 116-inch wheelbase and the same Italian 2.8L diesel that came in the last incarnation of the Liberty. It has rear leaf springs to carry heavy loads. Burnsville Off-Road in Burnsville, Minnesota, found a used up T1 and built it into a Jeep that could enjoy civilian life.
They started by ditching the tired 2.8L and installing a Mopar Performance 6.1L Hemi crate motor with AEM stand-alone computer. A Getrag 238 six-speed manual was installed between the 6.1L and NVG241OR Rock-Trac transfer case. They then took a pair of JK Rubicon Dana 44s and installed 5.13 gears front and rear, retaining the factory electronic lockers. A modified Superlift X2 suspension was used, with Superlift long front control arms, rear leaf springs, and shocks. Up front, King 14-inch coil-overs were chosen for their quality and adjustability. An ORO dual rate front swaybar keeps sway under control. The suspension allows the T1 to run 39.5-inch Interco bias-ply Iroks on Mopar/Hutchinson beadlock wheels.
Burnsville is also a body shop, so they worked their magic on the T1's body by installing an AEV Brute hardtop and bulkhead, cowl induction hood from Truckmaster Designs, and Gen-Right fenders, rocker guards, and rear corners. The body was then painted Jeep Flame Red.
Other cool stuff (that's the heading on the tech sheet) installed on the T1 is a PSC ram assist steering system, Mopar front and rear tube bumpers, OR-Fab interior sport cage, and a Warn 9.0RC rock-crawling winch that comes with synthetic rope, is small, light, and is already powder coated red.
Burnsville's civilian T1 runs well and is a blast to drive. The 6.1L Hemi with Getrag manual six-speed tranny will light up the big Iroks at will. AEV's Brute half cab sets the T1 apart and makes it a pickup that can be used for light hauling. The Rubicon axles have held up for a year so far and the front has now been reinforced with tubing and gusseting. The other pieces work together to make this retired soldier one fantastic vehicle. It looks great in mufti.
