Larry picked the far-left line and began clawing his way to the top. Victory didn't happen all at once. At this point, he’d burned the dust and pebbles off of the rock face and warmed up his tires in the process. To keep the automatic transmission from cavitating at this extreme angle, Larry kept his foot on the accelerator even when he was easing off of the throttle. Forward momentum was modulated by the brakes and, of course, by the waterfall.
