The Modified Class is sure to attract a fresh breed of competitors since mildly built to less extreme-built vehicles are still competitive. The rules allow for a maximum tire size of 38 inches, a vehicle tub and body consisting of a grille, a hood, fenders, and two front seats mounted side by side. No rear steering or full hydraulic front steer will be allowed. As for the new Super Modified Class, get ready to see some craziness. We're anticipating quite a few more rock buggies, such as those piloted by the likes of Walker Evans and Shannon Campbell. Rules for this Class allow for full hydraulic steering and rear steering, a maximum tire size of 40 inches, and no fender requirements. Engine, axle, tranny, and T-case options remain open in both classes.
ARCA also broke ground in the land-use department by appointing Sandy McCullen of Phoenix as the National Land Use Advocate. Sandy is presently on the Arizona Resource Advisory Council (RAC) and has been involved with state land use issues for many years.

2001 Truckin' Nationals a Hit
Known among street truck enthusiasts for years, the 2001 Truckin' Nationals, held at the Firebird Raceway outside Phoenix last October 13-14, 2001, finally brought something that we 4x4 junkies could appreciate. The Toughest Truck Championship offered new 4x4 events, including a drag racing competition, a jump contest, a log pit and a rockcrawl course, and a tire pit. The events attracted mostly local talents, such as ARCA competitors Shannon Campbell, Tracey Jordan, and Randy Ellis, though a handful of other 'wheelers were on hand to put their vehicles to the test. With the success of the 2001 event, we can only anticipate what the promoters of the 2002 Truckin' Nationals have up their sleeves. Check back with us in coming months for more information about the event or visit www.truckinationals.com.
