The names had to be lightly buffed off the sidewall so they are being sold as a blemish tire with no brand name on the sidewall. The buffing was carefully done as not to hurt the integrity of the tire. Blem tires are sold as is with no warranty. Also the letters "NHS" are branded on the sidewall standing for "Non Highway Service". We have these in two sizes only: 31x9.50-15 that replaces 7.00x15, 235/75R15, 30x9.50R15 and 31x10.50R15. The other size is a 33x10.50-16 designed to replace 7.50x16, 235/85R16, and 255/85R16. Prices $119 for 15 inch and $129 16 inch with free shipping. The new SCORCHER from aFe Power utilizes a fully integrated tuning system that is matched to aFe Power performance intakes, exhausts and manifolds. These tunes are designed to provide maximum performance over the entire RPM range. This produces up to 81HP and 170 lbs. x ft. torque. aFe has partnered with Superchips to develop the exclusive tunes to maximize all available power without sacrificing safety to the motor. This small hand-held unit contains multiple tunes per application that can be changed to match the driving condition (performance, mileage, towing, etc.). The easy to follow prompts make this product one of the easiest and fun ways to increase power and improve drive ability. The SCORCHER Tuner amplifies fuel delivery and injection timing for increased horsepower and torque and the speedometer calibration resets for large tire and gear changes. This tuner maximizes control of turbo boost and variable vane control as well as optimized shift times and patterns for better placement of available power. Additionally, this tuner will also read and clear check engine lights/codes. The SCORCHER Tuner retails for around $460.23 and is available in stores now. advanced FLOW engineering (aFe Power), is a manufacturer of high performance cold air intakes, air filters, fluid filters, exhaust systems, intake manifolds, intercoolers, turbochargers, programmers, differential covers, transmission pans and throttle body spacers for late model cars, trucks, SUV's and motorcycles. Mr. Church as brought a level of enthusiasm to United that organized four wheel drive as a whole has not seen in decades. Mr. Church was barely confirmed by the United Board of Directors and he had already started to work with a communication with the USDA Forest Service in a professional manner that will most certainly regain the respect that the United Four Wheel Drive Associations had historically maintained with our Federal Land Managers. Below is Mr. Church’s personal introduction and plea to the rest of us to make a difference. As you can see, he is most certainly one of us with a love for recreational four wheel drive that runs deep with his family. “Hello fellow off-roaders concerned with Land Use, which should be ALL off-road enthusiasts. I am transitioning into the role of Director of Environmental Affairs for the UFWDA. To give you a little background, I am 42, graduated from MSU back in 1992 with a degree in Finance, have lived in Perry, Michigan my whole life, have 2 kids (Josh 20 and Rebekah 15), have worked at USDA Rural Development for 20 years as the Director of Administration, and have always owned a 4-wheel drive vehicle but am new to the OHV experience/community. My wife, Michelle, and I got our first Jeep Wrangler (2012 Rubicon Unlimited) in April and have been attending many events and experiencing the many trails of northern Michigan all summer. We put over 10,000 miles on the Jeep already! One of the first things I noticed as we studied maps and GPS was the growing number of roads/trails/routes that are being closed on public land. This concerns me very much. Public land is for (responsible) public use. It is my concern that environmental extremists have taken over the process and their agenda is to shut down all state and federal public lands to recreational use. The Green lobby is very strong and growing. I need your help. I need your help, especially since I am new to the off-road community, in learning more about the issues you face as it relates to Land Use. But we also need your help in being proactive and involved in fighting this battle to retain public lands for recreational public use. Get involved. Vote. Encourage your friends to join this mailing list and become a member of the UFWDA. Talk to your fellow off-road enthusiasts but also the hunters, fishermen, snow mobiliers, and other outdoor sportsmen that have a shared, common goal of maintaining, regaining, expanding our right to access public lands for safe, responsible recreational use. We also need to work with the very environmental groups and gov't agencies that are shutting down our access, we need to educate these groups to help them understand that we Tread Lightly, that we have the same goals of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. We want these trails to be safe, clean and maintained for future generations too.” “We elect the public officials that pass (or repeal) the laws that govern state and federal lands. Gov't bureaucrats then administer/interpret these laws/rules/regulations ( I know, I'm one of them!). If we work together, make our voice heard, and coordinate with like-minded groups, we can take back our right to access public lands and reverse the environmental extremists rigid agenda.” “Contact me. Let's work together.” Jason and Michelle Church

The UFWDA Gets a new Director of Environmental Affairs. |

Constructed with 100% polyurethane on all sides, this high-flow, oiled OE replacement performance filter will outflow the stock filter by up to 45% for improved horsepower and torque. The PRO 5R performance air filter uses five layers of progressively finer mesh cotton gauze media to provide maximum airflow for best performance results. Washable and reusable for multiple cleaning cycles, the tall, open, evenly spaced pleats provide excellent dust holding capacity for a longer service cycle between cleanings. An integrated urethane bump seal insures tight, no leak seal over the life of the filter. Progressive Media: This filter features a progressive media to provide maximum flow with excellent filtration. The progressive layering of media allows the filter to flow at high levels even when dirty. The Pro 5R filter media has been tested at 98.6% efficient. Rounded Open Pleats: aFe performance air filters use a rounded pleat design which produces more useable filter surface area for increased flow and greater dust holding capacity. Progressive Bump Seal: This pliable sealing surface conforms to even the most uneven filter housing. This design eliminates the use of gaskets or sealants. The soft urethane construction always goes back to its original form so you will never compress the bump seal. This makes for a perfect filter fit and sealing surface every time. Full Urethane Housing: aFe Power performance air filters are constructed using full 360 degree urethane frames. This construction allows for a proper OE style fit with excellent filter strength. aFe Power OE replacement performance filters have a limited lifetime warranty. Part Number 30-10155 and 31-10155 retail for around $49.00 and are available in stores now. Have you ever gotten home from an off-road trip, only to be disappointed with the photos that you took? They may have looked good in your camera’s LCD screen, but upon viewing them on your home computer, the photos just don’t hold up. Perhaps you didn’t capture the rich colors that prompted you to take the photographs in first place. Or, perhaps, the images are slightly out of focus, too dark, too light, or some combination thereof. Here are some suggestions that should help. 1. Use a tripod. You might have the steadiest hands in the world, but the truth is that it is impossible to completely eliminate movement when hand-holding your camera. Generally, landscape photos require the use of slower shutter speeds (which are automatically selected by many “point and shoot” cameras), and many out- of- focus photos are the result of inadvertent movement of the camera when the shutter is triggered. 2. If using a tripod, use a remote shutter release cord. Pressing your camera’s shutter-release button with your finger can cause slight camera movement, even when the camera is on a tripod. If you don’t have a remote shutter release cord, set your camera’s self-timer (most modern cameras have this feature) to trip the shutter. That snow-covered mountain is unlikely to move in the few seconds that it will elapse before the timer triggers the shutter. The goal is to eliminate physical contact between you and the camera’s shutter-release button. 3. Timing is everything. It is best to shoot your landscape photos in the early morning, an hour or so after sunrise, or in the late afternoon, roughly an hour before sunset. During those times, the sun is lower in the sky, which makes the lighting softer and the colors richer. High noon is probably the worst time to shoot landscape photos, because the sun is high in the sky. Consequently, the lighting tends to be harsh, and colors get washed out. 4. If your camera’s shutter speed and aperture controls can be set manually, learn how to do this. When you activate the shutter-release mechanism (either by pressing the button, using a remote shutter release cord, or by using the self-timer), the shutter opens for a specific time (usually in fractions of a second) and then closes. The longer it stays open, the longer the film or digital sensors are exposed to the light coming through the aperture. The length of time that the shutter remains open before closing again is known as “shutter speed”. On many cameras, shutter speed can be selected manually. The longer the shutter remains open, the more care will be necessary in order to avoid camera movement. The aperture the opening in the camera’s lens that controls the amount of light reaching the image recording medium (film or digital sensors). The wider the aperture is open, the more light will be allowed in. Accordingly, a wider aperture requires a faster shutter speed in order to avoid over-exposing the image (IE: making it “too bright”). Conversely, a smaller aperture opening will require more time for the light to be gathered. Therefore, a slower shutter speed (ie: a longer exposure) is needed with a smaller aperture opening. On a camera whose aperture can be set manually, the aperture setting s are known as “f-stops”. F-stops are typically expressed in the form of numbers which can be found on the camera lens and in many cases, on the camera’s LCD screen. These numbers might range from F2.8 to F22. Here’s where it gets confusing. The smaller the number, the wider the aperture. So, F2.8 is a much wider opening than F22. Why does any of this matter? Because sharpness is almost everything when it comes to landscape photos. And, the smaller the aperture (ie: the larger the “f” number), the greater the distance at which things will stay in focus. This concept is known as “depth of field”. This is why most serious landscape photographers use very small aperture openings- they want the folds and creases on that distant mountain to remain in focus. For example, I typically set my aperture at f.16 or smaller (IE: a larger “f” number) for landscape work. How do you know how to match the shutter speed to the f-stop? If you camera has an “Aperture Priority” setting, you can simply set the aperture, and the camera’s built-in metering system will automatically select the correct shutter speed. Remember; a smaller aperture setting (ie: a higher “f” number) will result in the camera selecting a slower shutter speed in order to compensate for the smaller aperture opening. If your camera’s aperture and shutter speed can be set manually (on some film cameras, this is the only option), there should be an indicator of some sort – usually in the viewfinder, that will tell you if your photo will be over- exposed (too bright), under-exposed (too dark), or if it will be properly exposed. Setting the aperture and then changing the shutter speed (or vice-versa) until the indicator tells you that the image should be properly exposed is the simplest method of determining the proper exposure. A fully automatic camera doesn’t give you as many options. However, the odds are high that such a camera will have a “Landscape” setting, or something similar-which will automatically give you an aperture –shutter speed combination that will yield reasonable depth of field. 5. Stay focused! If your camera is not equipped with an automatic focusing (IE: “auto-focus”) system, don’t forget to focus your camera manually. 6. Maintain your composure! No, I’m not telling you to remain calm while taking your photos- although calmness helps! Rather, I’m suggesting that you take the time to compose your photographs carefully. In other words, pay attention to what’s actually going to wind up in the frame. Did you want that trash can in the corner of the photo? Is the front of someone’s Jeep protruding into the frame? Take an extra couple of seconds to really see what is in your viewfinder. If you want that trash can in the photo, that’s fine. But don’t allow anything that’s unwanted to wind up in your photograph. I hope that these suggestions help; naturally, this article is not meant to be a comprehensive photography course or “how-to” book.
