Mating the Klune-V Underdrive to the Atlas II offers a number of choices. Both units are manufactured with spline and bolt pattern options available so they will bolt up to a wide variety of applications. Which choice to make, however, is really a no-brainer: use the stoutest. We used the GM 32-spline output on the Klune with the GM 32-spline input on the Atlas. Due to the length of the 32-spline input snout on the Atlas, a short spacer was used that was supplied with the Klune. Bolt patterns on both were the Jeep rotation of the ubiquitous six-bolt circular pattern. Ordered with compatible options, they bolt directly together.

The black foot-mount on the front of the Klune shows the possible variations in stud locations. This allows you to clock the underdrive/transfer case assembly for optimum fitment. Notice the blue bearing retainer over the front output of the Atlas. This tells us Advance Adapter has installed its heavy-duty 32-spline front output shaft on this T-case.

With the Klune bolted to the Atlas, the entire assembly is approximately 21-1/2 inches long, roughly the same length as the NP242 transfer case that came out of our Grand Cherokee. For our application, this meant very little modification for correct fitment.

The Atlas/Klune assembly slid into the Cherokee with little difficulty. Toby Lavender of Lavender Bros. 4WD performed an expert job of installing the system in our rig. He found that in order to get the T-case tucked up nice and tight in the limited space beneath the Grand, clocking the assembly up was in order. Tom Wood's Custom Driveshaft built the needed custom driveshafts.

The Atlas twin stick shifter is designed with the proper bends in the shift handles to come up out of the stock Jeep TJ, YJ, XJ, and ZJ T-case shifter opening. But because the added length of the Klune pushed the Atlas further back, some minor modifications were required. Using some long pieces of all-thread, we lengthened the shift rods and extended the shifter mounting further forward from the T-case. With that accomplished, the Atlas twin stick handles emerged perfectly through the stock shifter opening.
