Randy's Ring & Pinion is perhaps known as one of this country's largest distributors of differential parts and axles. Owner Randy Lyman is an avid racer and off-road enthusiast. Feeling the need to complete his collection of automotive machines, he decided to add an extreme-built Ford Bronco. The early Broncos ('66-'77) are capable machines in the OEM state, but with a little effort and a few modifications, they can morph into extremely dominant trail rigs. We coined this project the Extreme Bronco Build because Randy commissioned Joe and Jeff Monroe, owners of Extreme Automotive in San Diego, to take the bone-stock '70 Bronco and turn it into a head-turning, formidable trail machine. Extreme Automotive was opened quite a few years back, with the intention of offering the best-quality parts and service available. We've come to the conclusion that he's succeeded with his dream because of the quality-built vehicles we've witnessed roll out his shop doors. Edsel Ford Jr. actually ordered a fully restored Bronco from the Monroes and was so intrigued with the work that the restored Bronco now sits in the Henry Ford Automotive Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Now that's impressive.
Randy's Bronco was delivered to Extreme Automotive in great condition, with the exception of cut rear fenders. The pony looked as though it had sat idle and unridden in a barn for the past 20 years. First on the agenda was the complete disassembly and cleaning of the rig. The frame and underbody were completely stripped and painted. After the thorough cleaning, the Bronco was shipped to Heritage Truck Painting, also in San Diego, for a fresh coat of Randy's favorite color.
The suspension system chosen for Randy's Bronco was sourced from Wild Horses 4x4 in Stockton, California. Wild Horses takes great pride in its products, using precise technical experience when building its suspension systems and components.
