No one likes breaking their vehicle on the trail, especially when the broken item is something that could easily be repaired in the shop with a welder. If you have a few batteries, jumper cables, and some welding rod, you can fashion a crude, makeshift welder to complete the repairs, but the results are a bit lacking and the setup process takes a good bit of time. That's why the Premier Power Welder package is such a huge addition to any well-prepped trail machine.
The Premier welding system offers a high-frequency pulsating DC current that takes only 2/3 of the amperage of conventional welders and can use any AC or DC electrode up to 1/8 inch at 100-percent duty cycle. The Premier unit can weld stainless steel, mild steel, high-carbon steel, and aluminum with no size or plate-thickness limitations. This makes it ideal for trail use as you can tackle just about any welding task that may arise. The 115-volt DC central control box also features a power outlet jack capable of powering many tools and accessories and a battery charger that can rejuice a battery from 6 to 36 volts in just minutes.
The Premier Power Welder is designed to be simple, reliable, and functional for any user. Installation is quick and easy, simply requiring replacing the stock alternator with one of Premier's specially hand-wound, high-performance, high-output units and mounting and wiring the central control box. The Premier Power Welder is a useful tool for any vehicle, and its welding and repair capability will ensure worry-free wheeling every time you hit the trail.
Mounting possibilities for the 4x4x9-inch central control unit are seemingly endless. We've seen units mounted under the dash, in the engine compartment, and in a custom-made storage box at the rear of the vehicle. Premier supplies a 6-foot wiring harness and a 6-foot verniered throttle control assembly, but 10-, 15-, and 20-foot lengths are also available. The unit shown in this CJ is mounted to the driver-side inner fender. Premier also offers a mounting shelf for Jeep TJs that installs on the passenger-side inner fender in front of the stock airbox.
