Suzuki Samurai Driveline Buildup - Project RocZuk Wrapup
Tom Wood's Custom Drive Shafts built these beautiful driveshafts for Project RocZuk. The rear will employ a CV shaft, and the front will use a conventional two-joint driveshaft. The shafts shown are exactly what you'll get from Tom Wood's if you order a set; however, the polish and clearcoat finish will cost you an extra $15.
Inside the RocZuk, the rollcage was designed using 1 3/4-inch tubing except for where a few 1 1/2-inch pieces were employed here and there. An Optima RedTop battery was installed beneath the dash. Other interior and exterior extras include a Grant steering wheel, a Home Depot utility box installed in the rear bed, Black Magic front off-road lights, American SuperLite oval taillights, a custom safari top, and a custom-lengthened full top.
A rear bumper and spare-tire carrier was constructed from 1/4-inch, 4x2 steel tube and supports a 35-inch spare.
RocZuk easily covers rocky ground.
Warn Premium hubs replace the stock Toyota hubs. The hubs also required use of a spindle-nut conversion kit.
The increased wheelbase is evident in this shot.
The new Tom Wood's custom driveshafts are shown here alongside the stock Toyota driveshafts that we'd installed just to get around town. You'll notice where the stock front shaft was lengthened.
Steel tube is in place to protect the long slip-spline shaft from damage when it becomes exposed as the slip-yoke cycles with the suspension. The splines are bigger and there are more of them than the Toyota shafts use.
Here, the long slip-spline shaft is shown with the larger-than-stock yokes.
