Yukon Ultimate 35 And OX Locker Kit Install - Dana 35 Upgrades



Dana 35 Upgrades Pinion Yoke
The pinion yoke was also well worn and needed to be replaced. The U-joint was able to walk in the yoke and was loosening the U-joint straps. T&J Performance Center had a new yoke in stock, so it didn't hamper the installation process.		 Dana 35 Upgrades Differntial Gears Removed
With the old differential and ring-and-pinion gears removed, we began installation of the new components. Here, the installation kit and the Dana 35 ring-and-pinion are laid out ready for assembly.		 Dana 35 Upgrades Yukon Gear Installation
With the OX Locker partially disassembled, the T&J crew installed the new 4.56-ratio ring gear.
Dana 35 Upgrades Spring Installation
The supplied springs were then installed in the chamfered holes in the forged-steel OX Locker carrier.		 Dana 35 Upgrades Locking Ring Gear
With springs in place, the locking ring gear was placed over them.		 Dana 35 Upgrades Bolting Carrier Cap
The carrier cap was then installed using the provided 1/4-inch bolts. The bolts were then torqued to 12 lb-ft in the recommended pattern.

A new bearing was pressed onto the pinion gear.		 Dana 35 Upgrades New Yoke Installation
The outer pinion bearing was tapped in before the new yoke was installed.
Dana 35 Upgrades Dial Indicator Adjustment
The OX Locker was installed in the axlehousing and a dial indicator was used to determine proper backlash and carrier bearing preload.		 Dana 35 Upgrades Differential Check
The gear-tooth pattern was checked a final time to make sure the setup was correct.		 Dana 35 Upgrades Yukon Axleshaft Install
The Yukon alloy axleshafts were then installed in the Dana 35 rear axle. The '87 housing is old enough that it uses bolt-in shafts rather than the later C-clip design.
