1997 Jeep Cherokee XJ - Grande Axle Upgrades



Bearing Straps Torqued
Once proper backlash was achieved, the bearing straps were secured and torqued to the proper specifications.		 Dana 30 Arb
Installation of the Dana 30 ARB was then complete.		 Alloy Usa Axleshafts Installed
The Alloy USA 30-spline axleshafts were then installed.
Unit Bearings
After seeing the condition of the stock unit bearings, we decided to replace them with new components. The local auto parts store had them in stock, and we're better assured that we won't have to break down the axle in the near future.		 Front Axle Components
Aside from the brake assembly, installation of the front axle components was complete. The Alloy USA axleshafts will most certainly hold up to off-road abuse and last much longer than the factory setup. Also, '95-and-earlier Jeep Cherokee XJs use smaller 5-260X U-joints, so gaining the beefier 5-760X is a bonus for these early models. Also note the Alloy USA axletube seals.		 Arb Compressor
The FourXDoctor crew installed the ARB compressor under the hood just in front of the brake booster. The lines were then routed to the front and rear diffs, and the wiring harness connections were also completed. The solenoids were labeled front and rear for easy identification.
Air Line Attachment
The supplied blue-nylon air line was attached to the front and rear diffs using the supplied bulkhead fittings. A piece of 1/4-inch fuel line was placed around the nylon air hose to prevent abrasion.		 Ashtray Switch Mounting
We decided to use the factory ashtray location for switch mounting. We routed the harness under the console between the shifters and through an existing hole in the ashtray base in the console. It was necessary to enlarge the hole so the larger connector would fit through.
