AEV Brute Conversion - Part 3: Cut and Weld to Completion
The Off Road Evolution crew installed the new Gen-Right fuel tank in the factory location. The Gen-Right fuel tank offers 1 inch more ground clearance over stock and an improved departure angle.
As a final step before transferring the nearly completed Brute to 1 Day Paint & Body in Downey, California, we installed the AEV tailgate and hinges. The tailgate is just as durable as the bed assembly and matches the body lines very well.
The front bumper and winch were removed along with the hood latches and other items we didn't want painted. We also stripped off all of the stickers from the body and did a good deal of sanding to ready it for paint.
The body crew at 1 Day Paint & Body used body filler to patch the seams where we joined the cab closeout to the factory cab. The area was then sanded and primed, and the rest of the surfaces were prepped for paint.
We were impressed with the job that the masker did on effectively covering areas where we didn't want paint. Before entering the paint booth, the painter blew compressed air over the vehicle to prepare it for paint.
In the paint booth, the painter did an awesome job of coating the Brute with a matching yellow. Check back next month as we reveal the finished Brute project.
