TeraFlex Jeep Rear Disc Brakes - More Efficient Braking Power
The new disc-brake mounting plate was then bolted in place using the factory hardware. Note the internal-drum parking-brake pads and springs, which are said to offer excellent holding power in even the steepest inclines.
The new Alloy USA axleshafts were then installed and secured in the carrier using new C-clips. Note that when installing the Tera disc-brake system with aftermarket wheels, some applications may require longer lug studs due to the thickness of the new disc-brake rotor. Longer wheel studs can typically be sourced from your local parts store. The Alloy USA lug studs offered sufficient length for our installation.
With the axleshafts in place, the new TeraFlex brake rotors were installed. Jim adjusted the internal parking-brake shoes so that there was just enough room for the new rotor to slide over them.
Jim installed the new brake pads in the calipers and then bolted them in place over the rotors. The caliper bolts were then torqued to 11 lb-ft.
The installation of the TeraFlex disc-brake conversion was then complete. We had slight issues fitting the stock wheels back in place over the new calipers, but this was primarily due to the fact that the inside edges of both rear wheels had a good bit of rust and corrosion buildup that was holding up proper rotation. We remedied the situation by sanding the inside of the wheels until smooth and also sanding some of the caliper until the necessary clearance was achieved. This shouldn't be a problem for vehicles with wheels in good or new condition. As a final step, we bled the brake system and took a test-drive to ensure that all was functioning properly.
Here the new TeraFlex flexible brake lines are shown installed, along with the new weld-on mounting tabs and shorter sections of hard brake line on the axletubes. The hard lines are not included in the kit, but the Four X Doctor had the proper line on hand to complete the job. An alternate flexible-brake-line kit is available for applications using larger axlehousing ends.
