The AEV JK Corner Guard Kit comes with everything you need for installation, including the left and right corners, Rivnuts, screws, and a Rivnut tool.
If you're looking for superb body protection for your new Wrangler, American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) offers a high-quality set of steel corners for both the two- and four-door JK. The corners are constructed of 1/8-inch stamped steel and engineered with the highest quality standards in mind. They offer full corner protection and look great. Industry professionals we've spoken with who are familiar with these units have all concluded that AEV spared no expense designing and crafting the corners.
Installation is relatively simple, but care should be taken to make sure the corners fit perfectly. The only tools one needs are a drill, drill bits, clamps, a file or deburring tool, a center punch, some touch-up paint, and a felt-tip marker such as a Sharpie (optional). Full-color installation instructions in PDF format are available on AEV's website for handy reference.
We've had the corners on our JK for over a month now, and we get plenty of compliments on them. Of course, we aren't really fishing for compliments - what we want is protection. We've been trying to test out the corners, but we haven't found that perfect rock to do the trick. However, we're sure they'll do just fine.
We removed the license-plate holder and rear taillight of the Jeep. The taillight is held in place only with the two inward screws. The light pigtails simply unsnap. We held the AEV corner to the back of the Jeep and moved it around until it was positioned perfectly and then clamped it in place. | With the corner in place, we used a center punch to mark our drill points, being careful not to move the corner as we did so. One could also mark the corner holes on the body of the Jeep with a Sharpie and then remove the corner before center-punching. | We then removed the corner and drilled the Rivnut holes. |
This is one of the provided Rivnuts. When the screw is threaded in the nut, the nut expands and holds itself in place. | You may find it a bit scary to drill into your brand-new Jeep's body, but it's worth it. | Here, the left and right corner are fully installed on our JK. We think they fit great, offer plenty of protection, and conform perfectly to the JK's bodylines. |
