Shown side by side, the difference between the two throttle bodies isn't very apparent to the naked eye. Other than the RE throttle body's 6061-T6 aluminum construction and larger throttle bore, the units are nearly identical. Even the throttle and automatic-transmission cables will attach to the RE unit without modifications.

The factory throttle body and sensors had collected a good bit of dirt and grease and corrosion over the years. We'll transfer the sensors to the new RE unit.

Rubicon Express supplies a new IAC housing gasket and a #20 Torx wrench with the throttle body. A rubber cap is also supplied to plug the vacuum nipple on the throttle body if the engine is not equipped with a MAP sensor.

Here the MAP sensor is applied to the vacuum nipple and then secured to the new throttle body using the factory bolts.

Rather than reusing the stock throttle position sensor, we elected to install a new Standard Motor Products TPS from Summit Racing. Though the old one may have functioned just fine, the new TPS will ensure that our engine's PCM will receive the most accurate information and will react to it in the most effective manner.

With the MAP sensor in place, the new TPS sensor was applied to the new throttle body.
