4x4 Rollover Safety - Roll, Recover, Repeat
The easiest way to clean up after a rollover is to have the right supplies. A shovel is important to have in a trail rig for many reasons, and most folks also carry trash bags. A folded cardboard box is also easy to carry and handy to have for situations that call for fluid cleanup.
With the box folded out and the trash bag inside it, we shoveled the affected soil into the bag to transport home for disposal. If fluids appear on rock faces, you should use a rag to wipe them up.
A strap secured to the rollbar can be used to leverage the vehicle with body weight. A strap should be used when touching a moving vehicle.
All 4x4s should carry a medical supply kit and emergency supplies. Shown here are the Comprehensive First Aid Kit, emergency blanket, and survival kit from Adventure Medical Kits. Each item is small enough to tuck away in any 4x4 and can make the difference between life and death on the trail.
The Comprehensive First Aid Kit from Adventure Medical Kits includes medical supplies for most emergency situations. The kit will accommodate 1 to 14 persons for trips ranging from 1 to 28 days and includes hydration supplies, treatments for bleeding wounds, burns, and blisters, minor surgical items, and items to address fractures or sprains.
The Thermolite 2.0 Bivvy emergency blanket should be available in case vehicle occupants go into shock due to injury. It's lightweight, waterproof, and windproof and will reflect up to 80 percent of radiated body heat.
