An onboard air system is a valuable resource for any 4x4. The AirBoss system repositions the alternator to fit a beltdriven York compressor underhood. The AirBoss system includes all of the necessary items to equip '91-'08 Jeep Wranglers with a usable onboard air source. The system is shown installed on an '07 Jeep Wrangler JK.
We all know the importance of lowering the air pressure in the tires before tackling a trail, but many neglect or forget to bring a portable air source to air up the tires again before hitting the pavement at day's end. Those caught without an air source of their own typically wait their turn to use their buddy's 12-volt air compressor after he's done with it, delaying the trip home for more than just themselves. One way to ensure you don't end up being "that guy" is to install an onboard air compressor such as the AirBoss system from Kilby Enterprises.
The AirBoss system is a beltdriven onboard air system that can be used to air up tires, operate air tools, or even to actuate ARB Air Lockers. The heart of the AirBoss system is a York compressor that mounts underhood next to the alternator, so that the compressor-clutch pulley is in line with the engine's serpentine fan belt. At the flip of a dash-mounted switch, the compressor clutch will kick on, and the belt will drive the compressor to fill an underbody-mounted air tank. And since the AirBoss system permanently mounts to your vehicle, your 4x4 will never again be without an air source.
In addition to the York compressor and clutch, the AirBoss system includes a compressor-mounting kit, a CNC-milled air manifold, an intake filter, a coalescing filter, Rotolock air-line fittings, 35 feet of 3/8-inch Goodyear Insta-Grip hose, a 2-1/2-gallon air tank, and installation hardware. AirBoss kits are available for '91-'08 Jeep Wranglers to fit most available engines in that year span and '78-'86 Jeep CJs with 304-360 V8 and V-belt 258 I-6 engines. Kits are also offered for various Dodge and Chevy engine applications. Check out the captions for installation highlights.
The Kilby AirBoss kit includes a compressor-mounting kit, a York clutch and compressor, an intake filter, a coalescing filter, a pressure switch, an air gauge, an air-relief valve, an idler pulley, Rotolock air-line fittings, a York dipstick, a 2-1/2-gallon air tank, 35 feet of 3/8-inch Goodyear Insta-Grip hose, and installation hardware. | The York compressor requires some partial assembly before installation. Here it is shown with the compressor-clutch pulley installed along with the intake filter, Rotolock fittings, and coalescing filter. | The coalescing filter mounts behind the compressor on a separate bracket to make use of the available underhood space. |
The engine compartment of the '07 Jeep Wrangler JK doesn't allow a great deal of space to mount the AirBoss system. Included brackets will reposition the alternator to create more space. | In order to make room for the York compressor, the lower A/C hose must be replaced. The AirBoss system includes a modified A/C line that won't interfere with the compressor and mounting bracket. | Installation of the A/C line should be carried out by a licensed A/C shop since the A/C system must be evacuated, and it is illegal to release refrigerant gas into the environment. |
