You can see how the Trail Master system bolts onto the front of the JK. The steering adjustments and axle alignment can be done when the vehicle is set back on the ground. | 4West 4 Wheel Drive Store then went to work disassembling the rear suspension, removing the shocks, sway bar, springs, and the control arms. | The new control arms easily bolted onto the axle and frame. |
New bumpstop spacers are bolted onto the axles. | The new rear coil springs are also added. They are much longer than the factory units and may require some added axle drop and persuasion to get them into the spring pockets. | New Kevlar-lined, braided stainless steel brake hoses are supplied for the front and rear brakes. |
The antisway-bar end links are mounted higher on the axle with the brackets provided in the kit. | No item is overlooked, such as this extension bracket that holds the factory parking-brake cables. | The rear track bar uses a Heim joint that allows it to be easily adjusted, ensuring that the rear end is properly set from side to side. A new track bar is being designed with gussets to make the bar even stronger. |
With the rear suspension fully installed, the Jeep is now ready to take on some serious trails and can accommodate a set of 37-inch-tall tires. | The added suspension height puts the factory driveshafts at a severe angle, so Trail Master offers new heavy-duty front and rear driveshafts as part of the system. | Unbolting the factory driveshafts is a simple task, but the yokes must be removed with a puller. |
The new yokes for the front and rear driveshafts slip into the transfer case and are secured with heavy-duty end caps. | Unlike the factory units, the new driveshafts also offer greater protection in case they get dinged on the trail and offer improved approach angles without binding. | The Jeep was outfitted with Dick Cepek 35x12.50R17 Mud Country Radials. These tires feature triple-ply, puncture-resistant sidewalls and a stepped tread to clean away debris. |
The tires were mounted on a pair of matching 17x10 Dick Cepek DC-1 wheels using a UV coating to protect the beautiful black, machined finish. | Before. | With the Trail Master suspension and the Dick Cepek tire-and-wheel combination, the Jeep rides incredibly smooth on the street and highway. It also has plenty of articulation that doesn't bind or squeak and gives you a good sense of confidence no matter where you take it. |
