Truck Body Engine Stand Tech V6 Engine On Stand
A V-6 with all the accessories still attached takes up a lot of space and weighs several hundred pounds. It's too heavy to pick up and carry, and too delicate to skid around across the concrete. A cart was the solution to the storage problem. At this stage of the construction, the base was built and the mounts were being mocked into place before the final welding was done.

Truck Body Engine Stand Tech Engine Stand Mounts
The mounting pads were tied into the factory engine mounts. This photo shows the engine mounting brackets after tack welding. I try to use many tack welds in critical applications like this one, as more tack welds mean the structure will hold its shape better during final welding. It the tack welds are too big, they can be sanded down to a lower profile.

I used a ready-made mounting plate for this caster. I used pre-stamped tabs and a length of flat bar to connect the flat mounting plate to the round tubing. Placing the casters in this outboard position makes the whole assembly more stable, just as using wider axles makes a trail rig more stable in the corners and in tippy situations.

Here's the cart for the Ranger cab. It's big enough to be used for other stuff when the cab isn't on the cart. The casters can hold 700 lbs. each, which means that the cart can hold up to 2,800 lbs. If even more weight-carrying capacity was needed, a third pair of casters (swivel casters, mind you) could be added midway between the corners.

Truck Body Engine Stand Tech Heavy Duty Casters
Make sure to use casters that can roll over the surfaces you need them to. This five-inch wheel will have no trouble crossing the cracks between the garage floor and the driveway. Note the brake--it's a must-have for safety.

Truck Body Engine Stand Tech Cab Stand Corner
Three different sizes of tubing were used for this project. The large radius on the two-inch (largest size in the photo) tubing meant that I'd have big gaps to fill in if I used the same-size tubing in a 90-degree joint. My chop saw wouldn't cut the big stuff at a 45-degree angle, so using mitered corners wasn't an option. All the tubing came from the 'remnant' area of the local metal supplier. Remnants can be purchased by the pound instead of by the foot. It's cheaper to purchase remnants, but you'll probably have to pick through the inventory to avoid cracked or tweaked steel tubing.
