The odometer reflects the actual 421,392 miles that the Cherokee has been driven. The factory drivetrain, including engine, are still in use. Vehicle owner, Gary Grinkevich, credits frequent maintenance for the Cherokee's longevity. As a lead mechanic at Don-A-Vee Chrysler Jeep in Placentia, California, Gary has plenty of experience at keeping old Jeeps on the road.

Despite the fresh red paint this 1987 Jeep Cherokee was beginning to show its age. The factory suspension was sagging and offered a less-than-desirable ride. Also, with open diffs front and rear the Cherokee was forced to work extra hard at tackling difficult trails. The take-off, all-season tires were also fairly balding, which further inhibited on-trail traction.
