2004 Toyota 4Runner Buildup Valve Shims Comparison

We showed up at Sway-A-Way with two sets of rear shocks. The first pair came off of the '03 4Runner "UNLimited" that we retured to Toyota after the loan period was over. This first pair of shocks was in great shape, but the valving was harsh over small stutter bumps. The second pair of shocks had pitted shafts and were leaking oil. This photo shows the old and new valving shims. What you can't see are the different shim thicknesses. Thinner shims deflect more easily and thus create a softer ride. View Related Article
