OEM applications almost always use tapered tie-rod ends on steering linkage. These have proven to be cost effective and reliable for their given application. An alternative when modifying or designing a custom 4WD steering setup can be the use of spherical rod ends. Depending on the type used, these can be considerably stronger than conventional tie-rod ends and may offer greater angular movement.
