Michigan resident Chase Meyers reminds us that "fan" is short for "fanatic." "All my life I've grown up as a University of Michigan fan. I told my dad that for my first car I wanted a Jeep painted like the Michigan football helmet."
Chase's '83 CJ-7 was originally powered by a 258 inline-six. No more. A Chevy 350 crate engine topped by an Edelbrock intake and carb moves the CJ-7 these days. Running gear is connected to 33-inch Pro Comp All Terrain tires mounted on 16-inch Center Line wheels and a 4-inch Pro Comp suspension lift.
Chase, it looks great clean, but we're sure it'll look even better dirty!
A Flash of Orange
Old Jeeps often fade out and rust away. That's certainly not the case with Craig Brown's '76 CJ-5. The short-wheelbase '5 is powered by a rebuilt AMC 304 V8. Connecting the power with terra firma is a 4-inch Superlift suspension kit augmented with a Daystar shackle lift and Heckethorn shocks. This suspension system, combined with a Daystar 1-inch body lift, makes room for a set of 33-inch BFG Mud-Terrain tires on 15-inch American Racing Outlaw II wheels. The original two-arm power steering was replaced with a conventional power steering system that saves Craig's strength and makes for a more relaxing time in the dirt. A Currie steering-box brace helps avoid stress-cracked framerails. The body tub looks pristine and rust-free in the photo, and it's bound to stay that way thanks to a generous coating of Herculiner inside. Omaha Orange paint protects and calls attention to the Jeep's exterior. Beneath the tub, the front axle and the driveshafts were treated to new U-joints. The front axle's drums were wisely ditched for a set of discs. The vintage '5 looks great.
