2007 Jeep Wrangler JK X - Trail Rigs

The New
E.H. Pena of Texas traded in a 2005 Wrangler Rubicon to get his hands on this '07 JK X-model and "I haven't regretted it once." Add-ons include a 2-inch lift kit, 20-inch American Racing wheels, and 305/50R20 Nitto Terra Grapplers. The JK's light weight and the floatation provided by the Grapplers do a great job of traversing the sand near El Paso, Texas. Max Tire and Auto in El Paso did the lift/wheel/tire installation.

The Old
Well, not all that old as Jeeps go, but Scott Symond's '84 CJ-7 isn't exactly new. The trail veteran rolls along on 32-inch Swamper TSL rear tires and BFG All-Terrain front tires. Scott uses a 4-inch BDS suspension system combined with a 2-inch body lift to gain the height he wanted. The drive train is stock. "I plan to make it more flexible and to keep it old-school Jeep. I want to prove to everyone that it really is a 'Jeep Thing.' My buddies are in the picture because they thought it would be cooler to be in the picture than be the one taking it." There's no question Scott's CJ gets used on the trails, and that's what Jeep ownership has always been about.

The In-Between
The like-new condition of this '89 YJ is due to the current owner's "sweat, money receipts, and other hard work," says Davey Swearingen of Panama City, Florida. When Davey got his hands on this Wrangler, it was white and had had one owner. It came with a re-manufactured 2.5L inline four, and was equipped with A/C which is "a must in Florida." American Racing wheels took the place of the originals and are fitted with 31-inch radial all-terrain tires. A Bestop soft top replaced the original top, and when combined with the new red paint it made the Jeep look just this side of showroom-fresh. Davey pulls a 13-foot travel trailer with the Wrangler, and carries a long list of rescue and recovery equipment including a 650-amp jump starter, a 250-psi air compressor, a power inverter, two fire extinguishers...it's a long list. Just hope that if you ever break down near Panama City, you see Davey Swearingen and his well-stocked YJ. "There are many more customized, fancy Jeeps out there and I admire them all. But I'm most proud of my restored, dependable '89."
